ATSA focuses on future of Aruba's timeshare industry

ORANJESTAD – The Aruba Timeshare Association (ATSA) has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening Aruba's vacation ownership sector following its latest quarterly meeting, where industry leaders reviewed tourism policy, sustainability initiatives, workforce development and ongoing investments across the island's resorts. The meeting, held at La Cabana Beach Resort & Casino, brought together representatives from member resorts to discuss the challenges and opportunities facing one of Aruba's most important tourism sectors.

CALL FOR STRONGER INDUSTRY DIALOGUE

One of the main topics was the government's Social Dialogue initiative. ATSA members agreed that businesses directly affected by policy decisions should play a central role in those discussions. In addition to the proposed increase in the minimum wage, members said labor legislation and other issues affecting the hospitality industry should also receive attention.

INVESTING IN PEOPLE AND SUSTAINABILITY

ATSA also announced that it will once again welcome hospitality students for an interactive introduction to the vacation ownership industry. The program is designed to expose students to career opportunities while encouraging the next generation of tourism professionals. The association is also developing a comprehensive Code of Ethics focused on environmental responsibility and sustainable operations. The University of Aruba is expected to be invited to assist in comparing local initiatives with international best practices.  With the Atlantic hurricane season underway, ATSA is preparing to appoint a Crisis Leader who will represent the association within Aruba's National Crisis Team, helping coordinate communication and resources between member resorts and the government during emergencies.

TOURISM PRIORITIES REMAIN ON THE AGENDA

Members also reviewed the recently presented Tourism Calibration Framework, describing it as an important opportunity for the private sector to contribute to Aruba's long-term tourism strategy. Among the priorities highlighted were updating Aruba's Beach Policy, improving transportation for visitors, introducing an official taxi app, regulating the vacation rental market, evaluating the economic impact of cruise tourism and studying the effect cruise passengers have on Aruba's beaches and overall visitor experience. ATSA noted that while the framework outlines important objectives, it still requires concrete implementation plans. Members also discussed the possible development of a new public beach in Bushiri and the replacement of damaged palm trees along Eagle Beach Road.

RESORTS CONTINUE INVESTING

Several member resorts shared updates on ongoing improvement projects. La Cabana Beach Resort & Casino recently completed its new pool deck, while Playa Linda Beach Resort received approval to construct a new fitness center and spa. Amsterdam Manor Beach Resort has completed a full renovation and is now building new back-of-house facilities. Paradise Beach Villas is preparing to introduce a new food truck while renovating its pool restaurant and outdoor areas. Costa Linda Beach Resort also continues investing in upgrades aimed at further improving the guest experience.
