ORANJESTAD — Nine women residing in Aruba, Curaçao and Sint Maarten had abortions in the Netherlands in 2025, according to figures from the Dutch Health and Youth Care Inspectorate (IGJ). The report does not specify how many came from each countries.
This is the first time the inspectorate has separately registered the group from the three Caribbean countries. Previously, these patients were included in a broader category covering other countries.
The figure covers only abortions performed in the Netherlands. It excludes procedures carried out on the islands or elsewhere and therefore does not represent the total number of abortions among women residing in Aruba, Curaçao and Sint Maarten.
According to the article, the lack of recent, comparable local statistics makes it difficult to assess demand for care and potential barriers to accessing services.
For Bonaire, Sint Eustatius and Saba, the report records 176 abortions in 2025. These procedures were performed on the three islands and are counted separately from the nine cases in the Netherlands.
