ORANJESTAD — Aruba's General Investment and Development Fund (Algemeen Investerings- en Ontwikkelingsfonds, AIOF) could become an important instrument for the island's development, but the government must demonstrate that it has the capacity to turn available funding into concrete projects.

This was one of the key points raised by Marion Agunbero, Aruba's representative on the Aruba Financial Supervision Board (CAft), during a recent interview with Noticiacla.

According to Agunbero, CAft has insisted for years on the need for a comprehensive investment plan. Now that the government has made progress in planning, the next challenge is implementation.

"One of the issues we have identified is the capacity to execute projects," Agunbero stated.

She explained that the government administration must be better prepared to develop, organize, and implement investment projects. This requires not only financial resources but also a fundamental change in planning and working methods.

Agunbero emphasized that Aruba urgently needs investment, particularly in infrastructure. However, the availability of funding does not guarantee that projects will be completed on time.

The central message is that the government must now move from planning to execution, ensuring sufficient technical and administrative capacity to deliver tangible results to the community.
