ORANJESTAD — PPA parliamentarian Eduard Pieters is criticizing the insufficiently regulated growth of vacation rentals in Aruba, warning that foreign investors are competing with local homebuyers and making housing less affordable, particularly for young Arubans.

According to Pieters, the government has been aware of the problem for years but is now introducing a registration system without sufficient clarity regarding its legal basis, conditions, enforcement and personal data protection.

PPA supports local entrepreneurs earning income through vacation rentals but wants regulations that protect housing availability and ensure the sector contributes fairly to Aruba's economy and social well-being.

Pieters stresses that registration alone is not enough. The government must introduce clear rules and limits to prevent tourism growth from coming at the expense of Arubans trying to purchase their first home.
