ORANJESTAD — MEP Member of Parliament Dangui Oduber has criticized the AVP-FUTURO government's new vacation rental policy, which freezes new developments while allowing existing operators to register and legalize their businesses.
According to Oduber, the measure could benefit large investors who already own multiple properties while restricting opportunities for Arubans wishing to develop two or three rental apartments.
He is demanding that Minister Geoffrey Wever provide the legal justification, economic studies and clarity for residents who have already invested in land or committed to bank financing.
Oduber supports regulation but warns against policies that favor major investors at the expense of local entrepreneurs. He also questions whether the freeze will actually create more affordable housing.
