ORANJESTAD — Aruba’s government signed an agreement with APFA on October 14 to enroll more than 550 employees working under employment contracts in the NPRfit pension scheme. Aruba becomes the first employer to join the scheme.

The agreement covers employees outside the regular civil servants’ pension arrangement. They can build a pension supplementing AOV, with annual accrual of 1.75% of pensionable salary. The standard retirement age is 65, and survivor protection is included under the scheme’s conditions.

Finance Minister Geoffrey Wever said the government must address these workers’ financial future: “As an employer, the government has that responsibility.”

The statement does not specify when pension accrual begins or the contributions payable by the government and employees.
