ORANJESTAD — WEB Aruba and Wärtsilä have signed a contract for a 35 MW/70 MWh battery system, with final handover scheduled for the second quarter of 2028. The agreement includes energy management and maintenance to strengthen the grid and integrate more renewable energy. wartsila.com

The project follows the RECIP-3 expansion reported by Noticiacla in August: an investment of approximately Afl. 115 million that increased generating capacity from 194 to 230 MW. The battery will complement the engines by storing electricity for later use. Its 35 MW should not be counted as additional generating capacity. noticiacla.com

The new step connects generation with storage and improved system coordination. The announcement does not specify the contract value or a concrete reduction in consumer electricity tariffs.
