EAGLE BEACH — Iberostar Wave of Change has received recognition from the World Economic Forum in the inaugural Beyond Tourism Impact Stars, which honoured six private-sector solutions addressing challenges in the tourism industry.

According to Iberostar, the distinction highlights its use of science, data and innovation to integrate sustainability into hotel operations and support the destinations where it operates.

Launched in 2017, Wave of Change combines environmental protection, socioeconomic well-being and cultural heritage. An internal team of more than 30 scientists and specialists supports the initiative, which includes partnerships with public authorities, businesses and local communities.

Álvaro Sánchez, director of Sustainability, Integration and Impact, said the approach generates measurable savings, reduces business risks and improves the guest experience.

The recognition was presented in Geneva, where Iberostar also participated in discussions on how technology and innovation can support staff training and improve employment in tourism.
