Advocaat leaves door open to staying with Curaçao

WILLEMSTAD – Curaçao national team coach Dick Advocaat has not ruled out extending his stay with the island's football team. The 78-year-old Dutch coach said he is "not saying no in advance," although he stressed that it is still too early to make a final decision, with the Curaçao Football Federation expected to announce its coaching plans in early August.

Advocaat said his passion for coaching remains as strong as ever and described the recent FIFA World Cup as a memorable experience, despite Curaçao facing a difficult group. He praised his team's performances, particularly against Ecuador and Ivory Coast.

Curaçao Football Federation president Gilbert Martina also declined to confirm whether Advocaat will remain in charge, noting that an official announcement will be made in early August. Advocaat's current contract expires on July 31.

The veteran coach believes Curaçao has the potential to continue improving, especially if additional eligible players decide to represent the island in future international competitions.

Advocaat admitted that the World Cup was an emotional experience, particularly because of the joy it brought to the people of Curaçao. Despite being 78 years old, he said he still feels physically fit.

He also made it clear that if he continues coaching, it will only be with Curaçao. "If there's one more challenge for me, it will be here in Curaçao. Otherwise, there won't be another one," he said.
