Minister Herdé seeks solution with UTV and ATV sector over access and alternative route

ORANJESTAD — Minister of Housing, Infrastructure, Internal Services and Telecommunications Rene Herdé has invited UTV and ATV operators to an open dialogue over concerns surrounding access to certain routes along Aruba’s northern coast.

According to the minister, the government has no intention of stopping UTV and ATV operations or putting jobs in the sector at risk. The concerns arose after ABC filed a case against the government seeking to end certain UTV and ATV tours and operations.

The government’s initiative follows a public protest by a group of operators earlier this week at the location where access to the northern coast had been blocked with rocks.

In an effort to find a solution, DOW and DIP have worked on an alternative route that could preserve access for the sector while also addressing the legal situation.

Today, Friday, September 4, from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM at the John F. Kennedy Education Center, Herdé will meet with operators during an “Encuentro cu Minister” session. Operators will have the opportunity to raise their concerns and proposals, while the government will provide information on the alternative route and the steps being taken.

Herdé stressed that the goal is to reach a balanced and realistic solution that takes into account both the continuation of economic activity and other interests related to the use of the area.
