Main Street tests specialized machine to improve cleaning and maintenance

ORANJESTAD — Minister Rene Herdé and the Department of Public Works (DOW) have launched a pilot project on Main Street to test a specialized cleaning machine from RJ Road Cleaning and Services.

The Sweeper Machine combines sweeping and steam cleaning and was tested on the street’s existing paving stones. DOW will evaluate whether the system can provide a more effective way to keep the area clean.

The trial must also take into account the tram rails running through the Main Street.  The project forms part of broader efforts to improve maintenance and support the revitalization of downtown Oranjestad.
