DVG launches school art contest to promote responsible pet ownership

ORANJESTAD — The Public Health Directorate (DVG) has launched the “Responsible Owner” School Art Contest to raise awareness among children about the responsibilities that come with caring for a pet.

All primary school students from grades 1 through 6 can participate free of charge by creating an original painting showing a well-cared-for dog or cat. Entries may include themes such as food, water, shelter, veterinary care and keeping pets under control. The artwork must be made at school and submitted with a participation form by September 30.

DVG will collect the paintings on October 1 and 2. Winners for each grade will be announced on October 16, and prizes will be presented on October 23 at the Bestuurskantoor. The overall winning artwork will be turned into a mural at the future Rescue and Control Center.

Through this initiative, DVG hopes to encourage responsible pet ownership and help prevent animal abandonment.
