Herdé: More than 60% of Aruba’s roads are in poor condition
ORANJESTAD – More than 60% of Aruba’s roads are in poor condition, while restoring the existing road network could require around Afl. 355 million.
Minister René Herdé presented the figures during an interview with Tito Laclé on Noticiacla LIVE, describing the state of the island’s road infrastructure as a problem that has built up over many years.
According to Herdé, only a limited number of roads in Aruba are currently in good condition, mainly those that have received continuous maintenance.
The minister said that simply making more money available is not enough. Aruba has limited asphalt-paving capacity and, even if the government were to allocate more funds, there would not necessarily be enough capacity to carry out all projects at the same time.
According to his estimate, spending around Afl. 25 to 30 million per year may be a more realistic pace of execution, depending on market capacity.
