Aruba government takes major step to improve mental health care

ORANJESTAD – The Government of Aruba has approved the allocation of land to the Respaldo Mental Health Foundation to develop, together with Mama Ties Foundation, a modern clinic dedicated to mental health care.

The project aims to expand local treatment capacity, particularly for more severe cases, and reduce the need to send patients abroad, away from their families and support networks.

Minister Rene Herdé said the new facility represents not only an investment in health care, but also in dignity and quality of life. The broader vision also includes professional training and strengthening Aruba’s specialized workforce.

The government considers cooperation between the public sector, private partners and health institutions essential to creating a more modern, sustainable and accessible mental health system.

“We must create the possibility for people to receive the care they need here in Aruba, close to their family and support network,” Herdé said.
