Canadian lottery winners joke about celebrating $12.5M jackpot in Aruba
CANADA – Aruba has found itself in the celebration plans — at least jokingly — of two Alberta friends who won a C$12.5 million Lotto Max jackpot.
Rodney McFadyen of Provost and Derek Marsh of Edmonton have played the lottery together for years, taking turns buying their weekly tickets. A ticket purchased in Provost for the May 19, 2026 draw changed everything, with each friend now taking home C$6.25 million.
Although both men say they plan to be cautious before deciding how to spend their winnings, Aruba quickly came up when they joked about what they might do next.
“We joked about going to Aruba and leaving our wives with a pile of Scratch & Win tickets to keep them busy until we got home,” Marsh said.
McFadyen discovered the win while scanning the ticket and seeing the C$12.5 million prize appear. He said he froze in disbelief. Marsh initially thought his friend was joking, but after checking the numbers himself, realized they had actually won.
For now, both men plan to keep the money in the bank while considering their next steps. Beyond their light-hearted idea of an Aruba getaway, they say their wives and children are their main priority and they intend to share their good fortune with their families.
