ORANJESTAD — Representatives from Aruba, Bonaire, Curaçao, Saba, Sint Eustatius and Sint Maarten have signed a renewed Memorandum of Understanding aimed at strengthening regional cooperation in agriculture, livestock and fisheries across the Dutch Caribbean.

The agreement falls under the framework of the Dutch Caribbean Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries Alliance (DC ALFA) and seeks to improve food security, reduce dependence on imports and promote sustainable, climate-resilient agricultural practices throughout the region.

Aruba’s Minister Geoffrey Wever signed the agreement on behalf of the island, alongside government representatives from the other participating territories.

The renewed memorandum builds upon an earlier agreement signed in 2023 and establishes a regional cooperation framework extending through 2035. The plan includes greater policy coordination, fisheries development, resilient economic growth and expanded opportunities for young people and women working within the primary sector.

A key aspect of the agreement is the intention to transform DC ALFA into an independent legal entity capable of strengthening governance structures, securing international funding and facilitating long-term regional development projects.

During the signing ceremony, Sint Maarten Deputy Prime Minister Grisha Heyliger-Marten emphasized that regional collaboration remains essential to improving food security and ensuring long-term economic sustainability across the Dutch Caribbean.
