More than 100 tonnes of waste collected in first hours of Aruba's national clean-up

ORANJESTAD – Aruba's first National Clean-Up Day surpassed an important milestone within hours, with residents collecting more than 100 tonnes of waste during the island-wide campaign.

The clean-up effort got off to a strong start, with nearly 43 tonnes of waste collected in the first two hours. By 11 a.m., the total had increased to 74.04 tonnes, and by noon it had reached 101.20 tonnes, filling the equivalent of more than 61 waste containers.

To support the initiative, waste containers were placed at 26 collection sites across the island. Several filled up quickly as residents turned out in large numbers, requiring collection crews to empty and return them to service throughout the morning.

The government reminded residents to separate waste properly before disposal. Dedicated containers were available for yard waste, wood and pallets, cardboard, tyres, metal and construction debris such as concrete and tiles. Asbestos-containing materials were not accepted.

Waste could also be delivered to the Barcadera Waste Facility, the San Nicolas Water Tower collection point and the Harbor Arena site near the former Bushiri Hotel.
