US and Iran intensify attacks

WASHINGTON/ TEHRAN – The United States and Iran exchanged attacks for a ninth consecutive night, further escalating tensions across the Middle East. The U.S. targeted Iranian military facilities, while Iran launched attacks toward Bahrain and military activity was also reported in Kuwait.

President Donald Trump said the strikes were carried out in response to the deaths of American service members in Iraq and Jordan. Iranian authorities reported dozens of deaths and hundreds of injuries from the latest U.S. attacks.

The continued violence has further undermined recent diplomatic efforts, although Washington says it remains open to serious negotiations with Tehran.

The conflict is also affecting global energy markets. Brent crude oil climbed above $90 per barrel, its highest level since early June, as the Strait of Hormuz remains largely closed, disrupting one of the world's most important oil shipping routes.
