Legendary singer Bonnie Tyler dies at 75

LISBON - Legendary Welsh singer Bonnie Tyler has died at the age of 75. Her family confirmed that she passed away in a hospital in Portugal after emergency bowel surgery and a period in an induced coma.

Born Gaynor Hopkins in Wales, Tyler became one of the world's most recognizable voices thanks to her distinctive raspy vocals and global hits including Total Eclipse of the Heart, It's a Heartache, and Holding Out for a Hero.

Her signature voice developed after vocal cord surgery in 1976. Although she feared it would end her career, it instead helped define her sound and led to worldwide success. Total Eclipse of the Heart became her biggest international hit, reaching No. 1 in several countries and remaining a timeless classic.

Tyler represented the United Kingdom at the Eurovision Song Contest in 2013 and released her final studio album in 2019. She had been living in Portugal and was scheduled to perform a series of concerts later this year.
