Pieters(PPA): Government allowed KIA crisis to worsen

ORANJESTAD – Member of Parliament Eduard Pieters (PPA) criticized the government, saying it has failed to adequately address the long-standing problems at Aruba's Correctional Institution (KIA). He described the prison as a "ticking time bomb" for staff, inmates and the wider community.

Pieters pointed to severe staff shortages, long working hours, poor working conditions, failing security systems and deteriorating infrastructure as evidence of the crisis. He also expressed concern about the lack of rehabilitation programs and limited psychological and social support available to inmates.

According to Pieters, the government must show leadership, listen to prison employees and take immediate action, arguing that the situation now affects not only KIA but Aruba's overall public safety.
