MP Dennerich Kelly(AVP): "Our people deserve information that creates understanding"

ORANJESTAD – Member of Parliament Dennerich Kelly has called for greater clarity and better communication regarding the current discussion over AZV coverage for preventive colorectal cancer screening. He said the public deserves clear and understandable information about healthcare decisions.

Kelly, who is also a registered nurse, explained that medical decisions should be based on each patient's overall health rather than age alone. He noted that many countries generally stop routine colorectal cancer screening around the age of 75, but emphasized that testing may still be recommended if a physician believes it would benefit the individual patient.

According to Kelly, current medical protocols are based on international scientific evidence, but that does not remove the need for the government and healthcare professionals to communicate those decisions more transparently. He concluded that quality healthcare begins with good communication and that respect, clarity and trust are essential in the relationship between patients and healthcare providers.
