PPA demands answers on the Tourism Product Enhancement Fund (TPEF)

ORANJESTAD - PPA faction leader Eduard Pieters is strongly criticizing the government for postponing a public parliamentary meeting at the last moment without providing any explanation. According to Pieters, the meeting had been formally requested since May 28, 2026, and was meant to address the management of the Tourism Product Enhancement Fund (TPEF).

Pieters says minister Cicilia has an obligation to appear before Parliament and explain how the fund is being used. He argues that the Tourism Product Enhancement Fund (TPEF) is an investment fund intended to strengthen Aruba’s tourism product, not a source to cover daily operational expenses.

The PPA leader also linked the issue to Aruba’s growing waste problem. According to him, the government is only treating the symptoms by adding containers and organizing cleanups, without addressing the root causes. PPA proposes investing in modern waste-processing technology, innovation and infrastructure.

Pieters stressed that transparency is not a slogan, but a constitutional duty. He said Parliament has the responsibility to supervise the government, and that a minister who refuses to appear and answer questions is showing disrespect not only to Parliament, but also to the people of Aruba.
