Curaçao wins Senior League Caribbean title

WILLEMSTAD – Curaçao defeated Puerto Rico 5-3 on Saturday to win the Senior League Caribbean Baseball Championship at Tio Daou Ballpark.

Representing Liga Pabou, Curaçao finished the tournament undefeated and earned the right to represent the Caribbean at the Senior League World Series, scheduled for August 1-8 in Easley, South Carolina.

Curaçao completed a perfect 5-0 record, winning all three games in the round robin, the semifinal against Curaçao Pariba, and the championship game against Puerto Rico.

Relief pitchers Zaid Martinus and Jaydlynn Wiel played a crucial role in securing the title. Wiel earned the win after throwing three scoreless innings, allowing no hits while striking out five batters.

At the plate, Joshua Acosta collected two hits in three at-bats, while Daniel Perez delivered a key RBI triple in the sixth inning to break a 3-3 tie.

Curaçao jumped out to a 2-0 lead before Puerto Rico rallied ahead 3-2 in the fourth inning. Curaçao answered immediately with the tying run and scored two more decisive runs in the sixth before retiring Puerto Rico in order in the seventh inning to clinch the championship.

The final out sparked celebrations on the field as Curaçao secured another Caribbean baseball title.
