WASHINGTON – U.S. President Donald Trump said the United States will never become a communist country. He made the remarks during a speech at Mount Rushmore in South Dakota as part of the nation's Independence Day celebrations.
Trump said Americans must choose between the ideology of Karl Marx and loyalty to the United States. “You can be loyal to Karl Marx, or you can be loyal to America. You can be a communist or you can be a patriot, but you cannot be both,” he said.
According to Trump, the United States is experiencing a resurgence of the communist threat, which he claimed is being fueled in part by people who have recently arrived in the country.
