ORANJESTAD, Aruba — Tonight’s edition of Noticiacla LIVE will focus on a subject of profound historical and social significance: the legacy of slavery in the Dutch Caribbean and ongoing efforts to preserve that history for future generations.

The program will feature two special guests: Lucia Beck-Fox, director for the Caribbean part of the Kingdom at the Slavery Past Commemoration Committee, and Jefka Alberto, the organization’s community manager.

During the discussion, the guests will explain how the Slavery Past Commemoration Committee was established and outline its core mission. The organization was created as part of a broader effort within the Kingdom of the Netherlands to acknowledge, document and preserve the history of slavery and its lasting impact on generations in both the Caribbean and the Netherlands.

A central focus of the interview will be the committee’s work, which includes organizing educational initiatives, supporting historical research, coordinating official commemorations and developing cultural projects aimed at expanding public understanding of the colonial past and its enduring consequences.

The conversation will also highlight the #Kurashi movement, an initiative designed to promote awareness, dialogue and reflection on identity, dignity and resilience among communities historically affected by slavery.

According to its organizers, #Kurashi is far more than a public awareness campaign. It is a call to recognize history, strengthen connections among communities and contribute to a more inclusive society that is conscious of its past.

The program will explore how the movement seeks to engage younger generations through digital platforms, community-based activities and cultural projects that keep the conversation relevant and accessible.

With the 163rd anniversary of the abolition of slavery approaching, the discussion will provide an opportunity to better understand the role of historical memory, recognition and dialogue in shaping a shared future for the people of the Kingdom of the Netherlands.

Tonight’s interview with Lucia Beck-Fox and Jefka Alberto will examine an important chapter of Caribbean history while exploring the role that education and public awareness continue to play in the present day.

Noticiacla LIVE begins tonight at 8:30 p.m. and will be streamed on Noticiacla’s Facebook and YouTube platforms.
