ORANJESTAD – Aruba’s parliament started the 2018 budget talks Thursday morning. The first three ministers scheduled to present their departments were Dangui Oduber, Chris Romero and Andin Bikker. The original deadline for the budget to be approved was December 15th 2017. But a change of government in November made it impossible for the new government to comply. As is the practice, parliament members send hundreds of questions to the Aruba government pertaining to the budget. By late Thursday afternoon, the parliament president ended the ‘first round’ of questioning, opening the floor for the first minister to ‘defend’ his budget. Budget talks are scheduled to continue the next few days, with the Prime Minister being the last one to defend her budget either Monday or Tuesday of next week.
