THE HAGUE — Prime Minister Rob Jetten's minority government has failed to secure opposition support for its tax plan after another round of negotiations with seven opposition parties ended without an agreement.
The proposal must reach the House of Representatives by Tuesday, ahead of Wednesday's debate and a scheduled vote on November 12.
ChristenUnie and 50Plus reported some progress, while Pro and Volt criticized the government's unwillingness to make sufficient concessions. JA21, SGP and BBB remain open to negotiations but are demanding changes on several political issues.
Without a parliamentary majority, the plan's future remains uncertain. The proposed tax measures are scheduled to take effect on January 1, 2027, but must also receive Senate approval.
