THE HAGUE — New aviation regulations took effect at Amsterdam Schiphol Airport on November 1, 2026, setting a maximum of 478,000 aircraft movements annually, including no more than 27,000 at night.
The rules establish clearer limits on noise, safety, emissions and protections for nearby residents. Before the pandemic, Schiphol handled approximately 500,000 flights annually.
Schiphol CEO Pieter van Oord welcomed the regulations as an important step toward ending years of legal uncertainty.
However, environmental organizations are challenging the decision before the Council of State, arguing that it effectively legalizes longstanding noise pollution and associated health risks.
Transport Minister Vincent Karremans has suggested that a future return to 500,000 annual movements may be possible, provided strict noise requirements are met.
