ORANJESTAD — Oranjestad police checked more than 400 vehicles, issued 95 fines and arrested seven people during traffic checks and preventive searches last Friday, October 30. The operation began in the afternoon and continued into the early hours of Saturday.

The fines involved driving licences, vehicle tax, insurance and inspection documents, among other offences. Two people were arrested for lacking residency permits, two for driving under the influence and one for marijuana possession.

Motorcycle officers arrested a driver after finding brass knuckles in his vehicle. Further checks in neighbourhoods and nightlife venues led to an arrest for ammunition possession. Police also seized cartridge cases, a machete, scissors and drugs.

Police announced that checks would continue the following day, Saturday, October 31, during Halloween night. Drivers were reminded to keep their documents valid and arrange a designated driver if drinking alcohol.
