ORANJESTAD — Officers from Aruba's K-9 Unit faced a dangerous situation Tuesday morning while attempting to arrest a wanted suspect on Caya Sint Maarten.
According to the Aruba Police Force, the suspect was carrying a firearm, strongly resisted arrest and refused to cooperate with officers.
Tensions escalated when a group of people gathered around the officers, reportedly displaying hostile intentions. Faced with the potential danger, police fired warning shots to bring the situation under control.
The warning shots helped calm the situation, allowing officers to handcuff the suspect. Additional police units quickly arrived to provide assistance.
During the same operation, police arrested a second man who was also wanted by authorities and happened to be at the scene.
The Aruba Police Force reaffirmed its commitment to removing illegal firearms from the streets and urged anyone with information to contact the police tip line at 11141.
