LONDON — Bayern Munich's Harry Kane and Alexia Putellas have been named the world's best footballers at the 2026 Ballon d'Or ceremony in London. Spanish football dominated the evening, claiming nearly all the other major individual awards.

Kane, 33, finished ahead of Kylian Mbappé and Lamine Yamal after scoring 61 goals for Bayern Munich last season and helping the club secure three domestic trophies. He becomes the first English winner since Michael Owen in 2001.

Putellas claimed her third Ballon d'Or, following victories in 2021 and 2022. Her 21 goals and 13 assists helped Barcelona secure four titles, including the Champions League.

Barcelona's Lamine Yamal and Vicky López won the awards for best young players. Dutch nominee Veerle Buurman missed out on the women's youth award.
