ORANJESTAD — A study by Economisch Bureau Amsterdam (EBA) reveals that in 2023, 22.2% of Aruba's households earned less than half the median household income, an internationally recognized measure of relative poverty.
Additionally, 27% of households had monthly incomes below Afl. 2,500. Between 2010 and 2023, median household income increased by just 13%, while prices rose by 18%, reducing purchasing power.
The October 2025 report identifies pensioners, young people, unemployed individuals and low-income households as particularly vulnerable.
Researchers recommend a comprehensive poverty-reduction strategy combining income support with lower living costs. Read the report HERE.
