WILLEMSTAD — Curaçao's CARICOM associate membership treaty applies exclusively to Curaçao, not Aruba, Sint Maarten or the Netherlands, according to the agreement's official explanatory memorandum.

Although signed by the Kingdom of the Netherlands on Curaçao's behalf, the treaty allows only Curaçao to participate in regional programs involving economic development, education, healthcare and culture, without voting rights in CARICOM's main decision-making bodies.

Prime Minister Gilmar Pisas signed the agreement in Grenada on July 28, 2024. The treaty does not alter the CARICOM status of Aruba or other countries within the Kingdom.
