ORANJESTAD — Police chief Ramon Arnhem has announced an increased police presence on the streets and intensified intelligence and investigative work following several shootings over the past two weeks. A mother of two young children was killed in the fatal incident over the weekend.

Speaking on behalf of the Aruba Police Force, Arnhem offered condolences to the family, particularly the children. He described the act as “terrible, cowardly and unacceptable” and acknowledged the community’s grief, anger and insecurity.

Arnhem stressed that investigators will pursue both the person who fired the shots and everyone else involved. He pledged that police will make every effort to identify, locate and arrest those responsible and ensure the violence has consequences.
