ORANJESTAD — Prime Minister Mike Eman is exploring cooperation between Aruba, Curaçao, Bonaire and the Netherlands to modernize waste management. During a visit to HVC in Alkmaar, he toured facilities that recover materials from waste and generate electricity and heat.

Eman outlined a possible alliance involving Serlimar, Selikor, Selibon, EcoTech and HVC. A key question is whether the three islands could jointly provide enough waste to make a modern facility economically viable.

Aruba’s refinery site is being considered as a possible location. The facility could sort waste, recover raw materials and convert non-recyclable waste into energy, while creating new economic activity.

The proposal remains exploratory. The partnership, feasibility and location of any future facility still require investigation.
