WILLEMSTAD — Parliamentarian Ruisandro Cijntje has withdrawn his candidacy for PNP political leader. In an October 13 letter, he said the election process had caused tensions and division and that he did not want his personal ambitions to weaken the party further.
His withdrawal follows controversy over former prime minister Maria Liberia-Peters’s criticism of his campaign. However, Cijntje does not identify anyone as responsible for the division.
In the 2025 election, Cijntje received 4,226 personal votes, representing 34.56% of PNP’s total. He remains a party member: “I do not need a title to prove my loyalty to PNP.”
The leadership election is scheduled for November. Dayanara Chien-A-Lien-Roozendal was the other announced candidate.
