ORANJESTAD — Police chief Ramon Arnhem has expressed serious concern about the number of traffic accidents in Aruba, where 13 road deaths have been recorded in 2026. “Every victim is one too many; this must stop,” he said in an Aruba Police Force statement.

Police are urging motorists to put their phones aside, obey speed limits and avoid driving under the influence of alcohol or other substances. Drivers should also hand over their keys when necessary, hold a valid driving licence and show consideration for older people.

Police will continue intensive traffic checks. Violations can lead to fines and, depending on the circumstances, detention. Arnhem stressed that a single lapse can change several lives and that road safety is everyone’s responsibility.
