ORANJESTAD — Ombudsman Jurima Bryson has expressed concerns about safety, protection, and quality of care in private residential facilities housing elderly people, homeless individuals, and people struggling with addiction.

Following several reports and media publications, Bryson sent a formal letter to Minister M.G. Wyatt-Ras, calling attention to vulnerable residents who depend on these institutions.

The Ombudsman emphasized the need for qualified staff, adequate supervision, compliance with care standards, and accessible mechanisms for reporting possible abuse or irregularities.

According to Bryson, the government has a responsibility to ensure that vulnerable residents receive dignified, safe, and humane care.
