ORANJESTAD — The Aruba Professional Press Network (RAPP) held its third annual Caribbean Journalism Seminar from September 25 to 27, focusing on innovation and the responsible use of artificial intelligence in journalism.

Over three days, journalists and media professionals took part in presentations and practical workshops on ChatGPT, Claude, vibe coding and other AI tools for research, analysis, production and new storytelling formats.

The program also addressed risks involving inaccurate information, privacy, transparency and source protection. RAPP stressed that despite AI’s potential, human judgment, verification and editorial responsibility remain essential.

Speakers included Rodolfo Rodriguez, Vincent Smit, Noel Algarín-Martínez and Laurens Ras. The seminar combined technical training with discussions about ethics and the future of journalism.

According to RAPP, the goal is to help journalists adopt new technology without compromising independence, critical thinking and responsibility for published information.
