ORANJESTAD — The Government has started a nearly Afl. 3 million project to repave more than 3.5 kilometers of road in Seroe Colorado, with financial support from the Aruba Tourism Authority (ATA). While Government presents the works as an investment in infrastructure, the community and tourism, residents say several of their main concerns remain unresolved.

According to Tourism Minister Wendrick Cicilia, the project will be carried out in three phases and is expected to be completed by December 23, 2026. Government says road lighting will also be addressed afterward.

Residents who contacted Noticiacla say they were not informed beforehand about the works. According to them, the section receiving new asphalt was not the area in the worst condition, while internal residential roads still need attention and lack safe sidewalks.

They also point out that the current route is effectively the only paved access road to and from the area. Another concern is a dangerous curve between Kaminis and Anchor and the absence of a second access route that could also serve in emergencies.

Lighting is another issue. Residents say two wooden ELMAR poles recently collapsed and point to overdue maintenance in the area.

They also expect around 12 weeks of disruption during the works, including having to use an unpaved sandy road.

The contrast is clear: Government is focusing on investment in the main route and the tourism product, while residents are asking for a broader approach that also addresses residential roads, lighting, safety and alternative access.
