ORANJESTAD — Suspect Fernandez Pedra will remain in custody in the case concerning the fatal crash that claimed the lives of two pedestrians on L.G. Smith Boulevard. During Friday’s hearing, the judge denied conditional release and scheduled the continuation of the case for November 4 at 1:30 p.m., with a clear warning to the defendant: “Make sure you have a lawyer!”
DOUBLE MURDER
The judge noted that Fernandez Pedra remains suspected of the most serious charge, which the judge described as “double murder,” and that the alleged acts have seriously shaken the legal order. This reference concerns the allegations against the defendant; it is not a finding of guilt. “I see no room to release you under conditions at this time,” the judge stated.
THE CASE
The case concerns the January 4, 2026 incident near Wind Creek Casino, in which Josely Paulina Vasquez Gonzalez and Carlos David Vialez Valerio lost their lives. According to the charges previously reported by Noticiacla, Fernandez Pedra was driving a Jeep Compass without a valid driver’s license and under the influence of alcohol. The case also includes charges of leaving the scene of the crash and attempted homicide involving two other pedestrians.
Following the judge’s decision, Fernandez Pedra remains in pretrial detention, while the substantive hearing is scheduled for November 4 at 1:30 p.m. The charges still have to be proven in court.
