ORANJESTAD — MP Edgard Vrolijk (MEP) is criticizing the Government for failing to provide responses he says are needed for Parliament to continue considering two major legislative initiatives.

One proposal seeks to anchor the Ombudsman in Aruba’s Constitution, while the other would introduce 50% student-loan forgiveness for graduates, including those who studied in Aruba.

According to Vrolijk, the Ombudsman proposal has been waiting more than nine months for Prime Minister Mike Eman’s position, while the student-loan proposal has been awaiting responses from three ministers for more than three months. He is calling on the Government to respond so parliamentary consideration can continue.

The criticism comes against a broader backdrop of delayed parliamentary responses: during the 2025-2026 parliamentary year, 2,616 of 4,595 written questions remained unanswered.
