ORANJESTAD — Motorists in Aruba are facing a sharp increase in fuel costs. According to CBS figures for August 2026, gasoline prices were 27.1% higher than a year earlier, while diesel recorded an annual increase of 39.9%.

In just one month, gasoline rose by 25.1 cents per liter, or 9.4%, while diesel increased by 29.7 cents, or 11.6%. Both increases contributed directly to the rise in inflation during August.

In August, the average price of gasoline reached Afl. 2.909 per liter, compared with Afl. 2.658 in July. Diesel increased from Afl. 2.566 to Afl. 2.863 per liter.

CBS links the movement mainly to international oil prices. The average price of a barrel of West Texas Intermediate rose by 5.6% between July and August, from US$79.32 to US$83.74.

Fuel has therefore become one of the main drivers behind the increase in transportation costs and overall inflation in Aruba.
