Volkswagen and Audi recall 2.8 million cars worldwide

BERLIN - Volkswagen is recalling about 2.8 million Volkswagen and Audi vehicles worldwide as a precaution because of a potentially defective bolt in the steering system that could cause power steering to fail. According to Germany’s KBA transport authority, the issue can be fixed by replacing the bolt with a version that is less vulnerable to corrosion.

The Volkswagen recall includes Tiguan, Touran, Golf Variant, Caddy and Golf models produced between September 2013 and July 2024, involving about 2.16 million vehicles worldwide.

Audi is recalling around 700,000 Q3 models produced between October 2017 and May 2024.

Volkswagen estimates that fewer than 1% of the recalled vehicles may actually have damage to the bolt. No accidents or incidents linked to the defect are known so far. Owners of affected vehicles will be contacted and repairs will be carried out free of charge.
