Delcy Rodríguez and Dutch PM explore energy and economic cooperation

NEW YORK — Venezuela’s acting president, Delcy Rodríguez, and Dutch Prime Minister Rob Jetten met face to face in New York to explore opportunities for economic and energy cooperation and revive diplomatic dialogue between their countries.

According to Venezuela’s presidential press office, the meeting took place on Wednesday during the United Nations General Assembly. The two leaders discussed Caribbean stability, shared interests and the importance of maintaining communication. No concrete agreements or details of potential projects were announced.

Rodríguez expressed Venezuela’s willingness to promote mutual understanding and shared development. Officials responsible for foreign affairs, the economy and hydrocarbons accompanied her.

The meeting follows a period of tension after Venezuela’s 2024 presidential election. In January 2025, the Venezuelan government ordered the Netherlands, France and Italy to limit their diplomatic staff to three officials per embassy.

A step toward closer relations came in August, when Rodríguez received the credentials of Dutch Ambassador Carmen Gonsalves, who had served as chargé d’affaires in Venezuela since December 2024.
