PPA demands clarity on who would benefit from LNT changes

ORANJESTAD — PPA parliamentarian Eduard Pieters is demanding transparency about who would benefit from proposed changes to the National Ordinance on Standardization of Top Incomes (LNT) before his party gives a positive opinion. He also questions why the government is consulting Parliament now when, according to him, it failed to do so before earlier decisions.

Pieters cited the salary exemption for the CEO of Aruba Airport Authority and the handling of the HOFA consensus Kingdom bill. He said Parliament was not consulted before the airport exemption or before the HOFA proposal went to the Kingdom Council of Ministers, despite an agreement made during IPKO consultations.

“Parliament is not a rubber stamp for the government to use whenever convenient,” Pieters said, stressing its responsibility to scrutinize the government.

His main concern is the proposal to introduce differentiated salary standards tailored to specific circumstances and regional comparisons. PPA wants to know which entities and positions would qualify, who could earn more, what criteria would apply and which region would serve as the benchmark.

Pieters mentioned ATA and the Central Bank of Aruba as institutions competing internationally for professionals. He wants a concrete list of the entities involved and clarity on how salaries would be calculated and monitored before Parliament offers its support.
