Longer security waits at Schiphol for second day in a row
AMSTERDAM – Passengers at Schiphol Airport should expect longer waits at security for the second consecutive day. Security staff are holding several short work stoppages on Wednesday to demand improved working conditions.
According to Schiphol, the actions are causing an average wait of around 20 minutes, while during one of the stoppages waiting times increased to about 25 minutes.
Five 15-minute work stoppages are scheduled for Wednesday at 10:00 a.m., 12:00 p.m., 2:00 p.m., 4:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. Similar actions were also held on Tuesday.
Trade unions FNV and CNV say workloads have increased since Schiphol reduced the number of security companies operating at the airport from five to three. Schiphol and the unions are scheduled to meet Thursday to discuss working conditions.
The airport is not advising passengers to arrive earlier than usual, but says it cannot yet predict how waiting times will develop during the rest of the day.
