Elvis Tromp restores Sunrise City mural 12 years later
SAN NICOLAS – Twelve years after creating one of the murals at the entrance to San Nicolas, Aruban artist Elvis Tromp is giving his work new life.
Commissioned by the Aruba Tourism Authority (ATA) in 2014, the mural was designed to showcase Aruba’s hospitality, culture and identity. Tromp created the artwork from scratch, incorporating island landscapes, cacti, tourists and scenes reflecting the welcoming character of the Aruban community.
At a time when San Nicolas had relatively little street art, the mural became a recognizable attraction for both residents and visitors.
Now, with support from ATA and an initiative promoted by Tourism, Transport and Labor Minister Wendrick Cicilia, the artwork is being restored as part of the broader vision to revitalize Bernhardstraat and San Nicolas.
For Tromp, returning to the mural has special meaning. The work he created as a gift to the community in 2014 is getting its colors back from the artist who originally imagined and painted it.
