WILLEMSTAD - Aruban Johan Sjiem Fat took part in a meeting between the expert group investigating the democratic deficit within the Kingdom and the Curaçao Council of Ministers.

During the August 12 meeting, the group discussed its investigation with the Curaçao government and expanded on questions that had previously been submitted in writing. Prime Minister Gilmar Pisas also presented several Curaçao positions and concerns.

The group, chaired by Dr. Aubrich Bakhuis, was commissioned by IPKO to identify and analyze proposals aimed at reducing the democratic deficit within the Kingdom.

Sjiem Fat and Bakhuis attended in person, while Dr. Rachilda Arduin and Gytha Boerwinkel participated virtually. The group is expected to present its findings and recommendations in January 2027 at the IPKO conference in Sint Maarten.
