Five arrested after police chase; drugs and vehicle seized

ORANJESTAD - Police arrested five people, including three minors, following a chase in Oranjestad on Wednesday afternoon. Officers also seized drugs and the vehicle in which the suspects were traveling.

At about 6:19 p.m., the police dispatch center received a report about a vehicle near a business on Caya Frere Bernardinus. According to the report, one of the occupants may have been carrying a firearm.

An Oranjestad patrol located the vehicle and ordered the driver to stop. The driver failed to comply, leading police on a chase.

Officers eventually stopped the vehicle near the River Plate field. Five males were inside: three minors and two adults. During a search of the vehicle, police found drugs.

All five were arrested and taken to the police station, where they will be brought before the assistant public prosecutor. Both the drugs and the vehicle were seized.

Police subsequently searched the area near the River Plate field for a firearm that, according to information received, may have been thrown from the vehicle.

The case has been transferred to the Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation.
